Currency

content from wikipedia and GV documentation

The Thai unit of currency is the Baht. A baht is divided into 100 satang. The currency code for Baht is THB, and the currency symbol is ฿.

Coins and notes currently in use are as follows:

Coins: 25 and 50 satang, 1, 5 and 10 baht

Banknotes: 20 (green), 50 (blue), 100 (red), 500 (purple) and 1,000 (grey)

30 Baht is approximately CDN $1
... so that lovely bangle that costs 60THB is around $2.00 CDN
... and that meal that set you back 150 THB is around $5.00 CDN

Throughout Bangkok and the main provincial towns, banking facilities and exchange services are plentiful. Thai and foreign banks provide standard services nation-wide, major foreign currencies can be exchanged for Thai baht with banks and authorized money changers. Exchange booths are usually located in the central parts of towns and mobile exchange units are stationed near larger tourist attractions. Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) can be found in all cities. The major banks can also organize international money transfers.

The currency exchange counters and ATMs are available in the Departure and Arrival Halls of international and domestic airports and are open to service 24-hrs, 7 days a week. Many first-class hotels provide 24-hrs money exchange services, but only for major currencies such as American dollars, British pounds, German marks and Swiss francs.
